Moscow antitrust finds Google guilty of driver’s license advert
MOSCOW, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- A Moscow branch of the Federal Antimonopoly Service has found Google guilty of violating the advertising law by placing an advertisement on the sale of driver’s licenses, the authority said Wednesday in a statement.
The authority received a claim from a citizen on the distribution in Google AdWords of information on receiving a driver’s license without training at a driving school.
“A driver’s license can not be sold or bought. It can be obtained only following the order stipulated by the law, but what the advertising says is direct violation of this order,” the service’s branch deputy head Irina Gudkova said.
Under the law, citizens can obtain driver’s licenses only at branches of state road traffic authorities if they pass exams after attending a driving school. No other entities are authorized to grant driver’s licenses.
